Pharmacological action

Ceftiofur Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of ceftiofur, a semisynthetic, beta-lactamase-stable, broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin with antibacterial activity. Ceftiofur binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. PBPs are enzymes involved in the terminal stages of assembling the bacterial cell wall and in reshaping the cell wall during growth and division. Inactivation of PBPs interferes with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity. This results in the weakening of the bacterial cell wall and causes cell lysis.

INDICATIONS:

Ceftiofur is a new generation, broad-spectrum antibiotic, which is administered for treatment of pneumonia, Mycoplasmosis, Pasteurellosis, Salmonellosis, mastitis, metritis, (MMA), leptospirosis, swine erysipelas, dermatitis, arthritis, Acute bovine interdigital necrobacillosis (foot rot, pododermatitis), septicemia, Edema disease (E.coli), gastroenteritis, diarrhea, specific streptococcus infection.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Shake well before use.

Goats, sheep: 1 ml/15 kg b.w, I.M injection.

Cattle: 1 ml/20-30 kg b.w, I.M or S.C injection.

Dogs, cats: 1 ml/15 kg b.w, I.M or S.C injection.

In severe cases, repeat injection after 24 hours.

CONTRAINDICATION:

- Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Ceftiofur.

WITHDRAWAL TIME:

- For meat: 7 days.

- For milk: None.

STORAGE:

Store in a dry and cool place not exceeding 30ºC, protect from direct sunlight.
