Colistin belongs to polymyxin class of antibiotics. Colistin has a strong and rapid bactericidal action against gram-negative
bacteria viz. E.coli, Salmonella, etc.
Colistin like other polymyxin penetrates mucous membranes only to a slight extent. Therefore, it is very poorly absorbed from gastro intestinal tract.
So, the action of Colistin is strictly limited to the intestinal tract, thus being the first choice in all cases of intestinal infections caused by gram-negative bacteria.
INDICATIONS:
●To check and prevent Colibacillosis & Salmonellosis.
●To reduce bacterial diarrhoea.
●Enhances growth.
●Improves FCR.
●Antipyretic action as it neutralises E.coli endotoxin.
●No resistant strain of E.coli to Colistin has been reported.
●Colistin acts synergistically with other antibiotics.

DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
Treating Dose:
Cow, goat, sheep: 01g/ 70 kg of body weight or 01g/ 13 liters of drinking water.
Poultry:
Chicken, ducks, quails: 01g/ 60 kg of body weight or 01g/ 12 liters of drinking water.
Preventing Dose:  1/2 the above dose.
Using constantly 04 to 05 days.
Broiler: (growth-promoting) 0~3 weeks: 20 g per ton of feed After 3 weeks: 40g/ ton of feed.
Calf: (growth-promoting) 40 g /ton of feed.
Prevention of bacterial enteritis : 20-40 g per ton of feed for 20 days.
